The department, among the oldest, was started in 1985 when the college came into existance headed by Prof. S D Nigam, a well known mathematician. He laid a foundation for teaching mathematics to engineering students and set a trend which continues till today. The department handles mathematical courses for all the branches of B.E., B.Tech., MCA and M.E.

The department conducts a national level symposium called "SANKHYA" in which students from different engineering colleges take part.
